Nigerians in the Diaspora must see the opportunities and not the challenges at home

Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa: Nigerians in the Diaspora must “see the opportunities and not the challenges” at home. The Senior Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR on Foreign Relations and Diaspora matters has encouraged Nigerians in the UK to make use of the “opportunities” available to them at home.

Hon Abike Dabiri- Erewa who took part in a town hall meeting at the Nigerian High Commission in London on May 17th, explained that there were lots of avenues opened for those abroad to participate and work with the government in delivering the crucial change desired.
Speaking to the audience, she urged everyone to see the “opportunities and not the challenges” at home. One of the medium available, she said is the Diaspora bond which was recently approved by the President. The Diaspora bond which was increased from $100 million to $300 million is a sovereign bond that allows those interested in investing directly into projects and infrastructure to do so.

Nigerians abroad remitted more than $21 billion in 2015 hence Hon Dabiri-Erewa urged them to think of ways to “key into” the project which will help fund infrastructure in Nigeria and deliver huge dividends for those who participate.

A keen advocate for Diaspora matters and women affairs, a veteran Journalist and three time member of the House of Representative has longed voiced her support for the Diaspora bill. Unfortunately, this was not signed by the former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan. The Diaspora Bill has now been sponsored, re-presented and would be debated at the Senate soon.
